Our Team

Stuart B. Kurtz is the managing partner of Kurtz and Partners P.C. and chairs the firm’s Real Estate and Business Department. He specializes in sophisticated corporate and real estate transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, licensing and commercial and multifamily real estate deals throughout the U.S. and internationally. Mr. Kurtz has extensive experience in securing and closing financing transactions, including debt and equity raises, and serving as general counsel to smaller, middle market, growing entrepreneurial companies. He has specialized experience with captive insurance companies and related healthcare work and telecom/data centers. His commercial real estate experience covers a range of commercial real estate matters, including hotels, shopping centers, apartment buildings and mixed-use projects financed through conventional loan facilities and federal and state tax credit programs. The firm became a member of Lawyers Associates Worldwide (LAW) in 2018, a global association of independent law firms located in more than 50 countries. Mr. Kurtz has held an AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale Hubbell for over 20 years. 

Prior to forming the firm in 1995, Stuart practiced law at prestigious firms located in Philadelphia and in St. Louis, Missouri. Stuart earned his B.S. degree in Accounting from Syracuse University, where he received cum laude Honors in 1982; a J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis; and an L.L.M. in Taxation in 1989 from New York University, where he was in the top of his class. Stuart’s law practice was featured in Washington University Law School Magazine in an article entitled, Small Firm Spotlight. Stuart also received an Honorary Order of Coif Award from Washington University in May of 2014. 

Stuart is married with three children. His wife, Debbie, is Past Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, Past President of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation and is President and CEO of Pennsylvanians for Modern Courts. Stuart is an avid sports enthusiast, regularly runs half marathons, bikes and plays competitive tennis and paddle tennis. Stuart has run half marathons in 43 states and is trying to reach his goal of running a half marathon in all 50 states. For each state that Stuart runs, he supports a local charity. Stuart recently completed the Boston Marathon in October of 2021. Stuart has also successfully hiked to Everest Base Camp and summited Mount Kilimanjaro.

In December 2007, Stuart traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina and was a member of the United States team (playing tennis) in the Pan American Maccabi games. In May of 2008, Stuart participated in a 300-mile bike ride from Jerusalem to Eilat. During the summers of 2010, 2011 and 2012, Stuart rode in the Irish Pub Tour De Shore to support the families of fallen policemen. Stuart previously was a Soccer Travel Team Coach for his two boys for the Lower Merion Soccer Club and guided two of the teams as Head Coach to two successive Delco Championships. He also served as the head coach of the Lower Merion Girls Softball team and was on the Board of Directors of the Lower Merion Little League.

Stuart was a Member of the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for Hazon, a Jewish food and environmental organization from 2008-2012. He also served on the Strategic Planning Committee of the William Penn Charter School and was a Deputy in the Washington University Law School Eliot Society and a member of the Dean’s Council for Washington University. Stuart served on the Board of Trustees for Abramson Senior Care. The Board offered guidance and advice to the Center’s management team. Stuart currently serves on the Advisory Council and Head of the Legal Committee for Victory Ranch in Utah.
